Note: The restaurant is currently closed for break, but will reopen July 31.

This mainstay on Binghamton's West Side is a favorite among residents, students and travelers alike. This family-owned restaurant serves hand tossed specialty pies, salads and subs.

According to one reviewer: "A slice of roasted pepper and a slice of roasted white garlic was a match made in heaven! The crust is crispy with the slightest char. It’s a gorgeous Saturday and the [sun's] out, you’ve got a couple slices with a black cherry cola to wash it down. This may be the meaning of life if you ask me. Really though, the best slice outside of the city. Whether you’re local or from abroad stop by for some great food and great conversation!"

Go: 67½ Leroy St., Binghamton; 607-296-7692; Paul & Sons Pizza (paulandsonspizza.com)

Hours: 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday-Saturday.

2. Nick's Pizza & Restaurant

This family-owned and operated restaurant is located in the heart of Endicott, and has been a favorite for decades. The restaurant features classic pies, but also serves pasta, entrees and salads, among other options.

According to one reviewer: "Nick's has been a staple [in] Endicott for years. I live in Texas now so only get back home every once in a while. I always make a point of visiting Nick's restaurant. Nick the owner takes time and says hi to all the customers. The wait staff exceptional. Atmosphere always awesome. If you visit any where in the triple cities you have to stop and try Nick's. Be it a sit down dinner or take out or pizza all exceptional."

Go: 117 E Main St., Endicott; 607-785-2900; Nick's Pizza & Restaurant (nickspizzaendicottny.com)

Hours: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

3. New York Pizzeria

This local pizza place is located in Binghamton Plaza, and serves pizza, subs and wings. New York Pizzeria has been owned and operated by the same two people for the past 10 years, which has allowed them to build a relationship with residents and local high school and college teams.

According to one reviewer: "The crust on the bottom stayed crisp even with the pesto and marinara combo on top. The pesto on top of my pizza was delicious and garlicky. Slices are large and they warm them up quick. They have a great selection of slices there. It is a no nonsense place, just go up, tell them what slices you want and they will warm them up and get you checked out in just a couple minutes. The owner was kind enough to talk with my coworker and I for a minute on the way out. This is the best pizza I have had since moving back upstate from NYC. I will definitely return!"

Go: 33 W State St., Binghamton; 607-724-3030; New York Pizzeria (binghamtonpizzeria.com)

Hours: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

4. Rossi's Pizza

Rossi's Pizza was first started in Endicott by Sam Rossi in 1970, and has been operating faithfully since then. The pizzeria, which also has a location in Johnson City, serves classic pies, subs and spiedies.

According to one reviewer: "We usually have NY style thin crust pizza but tried Rossi's sheet type pizza and really enjoyed it. There was a generous amount of sauce and cheese, a flavorful crust and will definitely get it again. They have a large display case with the pizza in a wide variety of toppings so you can sample all the flavors by the slice. The place was clean and the people were very pleasant."

6. Michelangelo's Pizzeria and Ristorante

A collaboration between owner Angelo Belnome and pizza maker Michael Hadlick at the former Villa Pizza in the Oakdale Mall, Michelangelo's opened its doors in 2005. The restaurant has been through its fair share of difficulties, being flooded by the Susquehanna River twice since its opening, but that hasn't stopped it from consistently serving pizza and wings for nearly 20 years.

According to one reviewer: "I figured the pizza here was overhyped but happily I was wrong. The crust is a great blend of softness and crispness and the toppings were plentiful. Plus the large is a ton of food for the money. Highly recommend it."

Go: 465 Court St., Binghamton; 607-724-4045; Michelangelo's (michelangelosristorante.com)

Hours: Open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.

7. Pizza on the Plaza

This local pizzeria is located in Johnson City, and features a variety of specials alongside classic pizzas.

According to one reviewer: "This place was amazing! I'm always a little sceptical about local places that I don't know anything about, being from Florida, but this place was so good. Very friendly staff, easy going atmosphere and the pizza and wings were delicious. I love NY style pizza and wings and they were exactly the way I love them. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area! Thank you for your hospitality."
